$ 15.99 Trapiche Broquel Malbec
I recently had the pleasure of spending an evening with two new friends. Their 1770's home, which originally housed a Pennsylvania Long Rifle shop then turned gristmill, and situated next to a stream and wooden bridge (once covered) set the perfect ambient tone. The night was unseasonably warm for October, but made outside dining quite comfortable. The evening began with Bogle Chardonnay, which cleared away the cobwebs and cares of the day. Bogle has long been one of my favorite vineyards... always putting forth a solid performing wine. I've yet to have a disappointing glass from Bogle. This Chardonnay was clean and a fine representative of everything we think of Chard. The Bogle kept us busy while the wives chatted and set the table and men stood watchful over the meat on the grill. The salad, simple and elegent, was a stack of tomato and mozzarella covered with basil and balsamic vinegar. For the main, a large cut of cow seared on the outside and tender on the inside, with grilled whole potato asparagus and zucchini. The velvety mouth feel and big rounded flavor of the Malbec elevated the beef to a new level. Dessert... Individual apple crisps with coffee and pinned together with cordial glasses of Ouzo. If you have a chance to pick up either of these very pleasing wines may I suugest heading straight for a friend's house and sharing it with them. |
