The Pressroom in downtown Lancaster has long been one of my favorite haunts for Thursday Night Jazz, and you can get a really decent glass 'o' house wine too! Enter Nathanson Creek Merlot... A generous pour at the Pressroom yields a large balloon shaped glass filled about half way (truly half full). I never mind the price tag for a glass of house wine there. The wine has the color deep cherries, and on the nose it has a nice rounded sweetness with pleasant berry notes up front. The mouth has a decent smoky quality with earth-tone underpinnings. I find Nathanson Chreek Merlot to always be a stable well structured wine that dispels much of the stigma that there are no good bottles of Merlot to found. It is affordable, approachable, and easy drinking. The winery uses a soft press method, which means less tannins from crushed seeds and stems. This Merlot makes a great house wine for any bar, and is perfect to take along to any large family gathering where an all around good wine is needed. A Sip... Shall We!
